GTE nabs Navy telecom contract The Navy late last month awarded an estimated $102 million telecommunications contract to GTE California Inc. to provide voice data and video communications. Under the Port Hueneme Division Naval Surface Warfare Center contract GTE will provide services for local telephone video teleconferencing help desk and local- and wide-area networks. USPS tags $200 million for upgrade ]The U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors last week approved $200 million to fund Phase Two of the associate office infrastructure program which will upgrade servers and software tools in post offices and provide links to the agency's telecommunications network. The funding will upgrade an additional 4 200 post offices nationwide to take advantage of new applications such as Point of Service which will bring advanced retail services to customers.
