Boeing adds vendor to NASA contract bid team

Boeing Co. announced last week that Daimler-Benz Aerospace (DASA) has signed an agreement to provide technical support to Boeing's pursuit of NASA's $5 billion Consolidated Space Operations Contract.

Rick Stephens, the Boeing Reusable Space Systems vice president and general manager responsible for CSOC, said DASA's capabilities will "significantly enhance Boeing's space operations approach, facilitate the use of European commercial space assets and promote international uses of the CSOC capability."

CSOC, scheduled to be awarded in June, is a 10-year contract for the design and development of a ground systems architecture and space-based infrastructure to provide mission and data services to more than 100 exiting and planned NASA spacecraft. NASA has narrowed the bidders' field to two teams, led by Boeing and Lockheed Martin Space Mission Systems and Services Inc.

Federal Data taps new COO

Federal Data Corp.'s board of directors has elected Harry T. Marren president and chief operating officer of the Bethesda, Md.-based company.

Marren replaces Dan Young, who served as president of FDC since 1985. Young retains his position as chief executive officer, a job he has held since 1996, and takes on a new title as vice chairman of the board.

Marren joined FDC in 1977 and became general manager of operations. He was promoted to senior vice president in 1988 and a year later became president of an FDC subsidiary, FDC Technologies Inc. Before joining FDC, Marren was in the Marine Corps, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

Firms team to target agencies

KnowledgeLink Interactive Inc. and Logicon Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Corp., this month announced their intent to enter into a cooperative marketing agreement targeting federal government agencies with knowledge management software and services.

Logicon will extend KnowledgeLink's reach to potential federal government agencies that have the need to access vast amounts of information available on the Internet. Logicon intends to integrate KnowledgeLink's PerSavant knowledge management software with its full-service solutions aimed at analysts' desktops.

The companies also anticipate adding new technology and significant capabilities to many of the more than 200 sites that use Logicon's Message Dissemination System. LMDS software is used for the online publication Commerce Business Daily, which publishes business opportunities for government contractors.
