South Carolina Awards DMV Contract

South Carolina's Department of Public Safety on April 22 awarded to CACI International Inc. a $25 million contract to overhaul the state's Division of Motor Vehicles operations and establish a World Wide Web presence for the state.

CACI will leverage its previous state DMV experience, balancing much of its work in South Carolina on the company's DMV "software reuse toolkit," according to John Grimshaw, CACI executive vice president. "Other states have worked in pieces on their DMV systems. Here, they've asked for the whole thing, including driver's license issuance, driver's license testing, automated processing for traffic tickets as well as a means for citizens to access the DMV over the World Wide Web," he said.

CACI's work begins Phase Two of the state's DMV overhaul, dubbed Project Phoenix, which is designed to revamp systems and business practices.
