County to track constituent interactions
Fairfax Co., Virginia next week will begin rolling out a new World Wide Web-based software system to allow its Board of Supervisors and Office of the County Executive to better track constituent interactions.
ACS Desktop Solutions Inc. inked the deal to provide its Intranet Quorum (IQ) relations management software to the county. "Government organizations [such as] departments of revenue, police departments or even boards of supervisors all deal with citizens who are asking for help, making requests or even expressing opinions," said Howard Langston, ACS' director of marketing. "IQ tracks interactions between people and facilitates responses to them."
IQ's is designed as a tool for correspondence management, scheduling and event support. The product also tackles workflow and routing and can be used for legislative, casework and in-house expense tracking. IQ integrates with the Web, e-mail, Microsoft Corp.'s Word and Corel Corp.'s WordPerfect word processing programs.
Fairfax County, a Washington, D.C., suburb, is using IQ to replace seven homegrown solutions, including four Paradox databases that were not Year 2000-compliant. "The software we were using was becoming woefully inadequate," said Peggy Van Lowe, the director of the Business Systems Division in Fairfax County's Department of Information Technology.
A newcomer to the state and local government market, ACS is providing IQ to the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the White House and multiple federal agencies. "Fairfax County is one of country's leaders in IT," Langston said. "They've been one of the first out there to address the need [to serve constituents] with technology."
Fairfax County will start with 70 licenses of IQ installed as is, and any customization will occur after IQ has been in the trenches for a while. Van Lowe said she hopes to have the full implementation completed by the end of August. She also said the software could be used in the county's Public Affairs Office and in the Department of Tax Administration.
