Illinois poised for statewide educational network

Illinois Gov. George Ryan (R) is poised to sign legislation recently approved by the state's General Assembly to create a statewide educational network.

Included in the bill, H.B. 2088, is $25 million in funding for the Century Network, which will bring data, voice and video communication to schools and libraries.

Illinois' Department of Central Management is providing some oversight to the state's principals to make sure the new system can be integrated with existing state systems.
