San Diego Accepts Internet Taxes

County taxpayers can pay their tax bills with cash, credit cards or the new electronic checks. The process to pay taxes with an electronic check is similar to using a credit card, though residents need to have a checking account.

"We expect this option to be very attractive," said Bart Hartman, the county's treasurer-tax collector.

Taxpayers can sign on to the treasurer/tax collector's World Wide Web site, www.sdtreastax.com, and click on the "pay tax bills online" option. There is a $3 charge to do it, though the county does not receive revenue from the fees.
