* CD-ROM drive.

* One free serial port or USB port. (Note: The USB connection does

not work with Windows 95 or NT, and the infrared connection does not work

with Windows NT.)

* TCP/IP protocols.

* Microsoft Office 97 or Office 2000 (at a minimum, Word and Excel).

* Microsoft Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 (comes bundled with the Jornada

545).

Price and Availability: The Jornada 545 is available for a retail price of $499. The Jornada 548 — which has 32M of ROM compared with the Jornada 545's 16M and comes with a serial cable in addition to the USB cradle — is available for a retail price of $599.

Remarks: The Jornada 545 is a well-designed device that makes an extremely useful traveling companion. Don't expect it to take the place of your desktop or notebook PC, but for its size it can do a lot.
