* Media Gateway Control (MEGACO) — sets how a network gateway converts

the information carried on telephone circuits into data packets carried

over the Internet or other IP networks.

* Session Initiation Protocol — a signaling protocol used to establish,

maintain and terminate multimedia sessions, including voice-over-IP calls.

* H.323 — a widely adopted standard that defines how audiovisual conferencing

data is transmitted across networks.

* G.729 — a protocol that reduces the size of voice packets traveling

across an IP network.
