Pay raise particulars

Who: Computer specialists (GS-334), computer engineers (GS-854) and computer

scientists (GS-1550) in the GS-5 through GS-12 grades.

What: Raises ranging from 7 percent to 33 percent.

When: Jan. 1, 2001

Where: Pay rates will be posted at www.opm.gov/oca when available.

Why: To help agencies recruit entry-level IT workers.

How: OPM will establish six IT special salary rate schedules, each covering

a cluster of geographic areas. Employees will receive the greater of the

locality pay or the special salary rate for their grade and step.
