The National Association of Chief Information Officers canceled its Sept.
16-19 conference in New Orleans in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks,
which grounded air transportation and imposed travel restrictions.
In a press release Sept. 13, Elizabeth Miller, NASCIO's executive director,
said, "It has been a difficult decision, but we realize that our efforts
are needed at home at this time. Many of our prime members and corporate
partners, including keynote speakers and session panelists, will not be
able to participate due to uncertainty of travel or restrictions on such
implemented by their organizations."
Miller said the group is discussing options for another meeting, but
"it is too soon to tell what alternatives may be available."
She also said the hotel will not penalize anyone for canceling their
reservation, but attendees must call (504) 561-1234 to cancel their individual
reservations.
