President Bush announced Dec. 5 that he intends to nominate Kathie Olsen to be associate director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Olsen has been chief scientist at NASA since May 1999 and acting associate administrator for NASA's Office of Biological and Physical Research since July 2000.
As chief scientist, Olsen was the NASA administrator's senior scientific adviser and principal interface with the national and international scientific community. She also is the principal adviser to the administrator on the budget content of NASA's science programs.
Prior to joining NASA, Olsen served as the senior staff associate for the Science and Technology Centers in the National Science Foundation's Office of Integrative Activities.
Retired Navy Capt. Ted Case has been selected as deputy director of information operations and chief technical officer in the Defense Logistics Agency's Directorate of Information Operations. The agency announced his appointment Dec. 7. Case will be responsible for implementing the technical infrastructure and applications architecture for DLA.
He most recently was associate director of J-6 and recently retired from the Navy following a tour assigned to DLA. His positions with the agency included deputy division chief of the Systems Integration Division; division chief of the Information Resources Management Division; deputy staff director of the Information Services Office; the program team leader for major information technology programs; program manager of the Defense Department Standard Procurement System and the DLA deputy chief information officer.
David Falvey has been selected to be the Defense Logistics Agency's program executive officer in the Directorate of Information Operations, the agency announced Nov. 14. He will be responsible for the development, acquisition, testing, systems integration, product improvement and fielding of DLA information technology programs.
Falvey joined DLA in 1998 with a broad background in program management and systems development and held positions in these areas with the Navy. He is a captain in the Naval Reserve and has commanded five Naval Reserve units, including two DLA distribution units and two Navy supply center units.
