Matthews appointed CIO Council's vice chair

Transportation Department chief information officer Daniel Matthews was named the new vice chairman of the federal CIO Council.

Matthews replaces Karen Evans, who became the council's director in September when she was appointed the Office of Management and Budget's administrator for e-government and information technology.

Matthews has been the Transportation CIO since March. Before joining the federal government, he was senior vice president at Savantage Financial Services Inc., for which he managed efforts to modernize financial systems of several federal agencies. He has been a vice president at Lockheed Martin Corp. and spent four years in the Air Force.
