New chip boosts PC speed

Hoping to make an old idea new again, upstart chip designer ClearSpeed Technology Inc. has developed an add-on processor that can dramatically boost the speed of off-the-shelf PC servers with minimal power

consumption.

Fast but power-efficient is a combination of qualities that could be attractive to government research and analysis outfits that want to build supercomputer-class clusters using densely packed PCs
