@BarackObama to write tweets #socialmediawin

Social media will play a large role in President Barack Obama's re-election campaign. But until now, almost all of the tweets posted under the president's official Twitter account, @BarackObama, had been written by his staff.

Now, Obama's campaign has announced that Obama will be writing some of the tweets himself, Mashable reports. In a message to supporters, the campaign said tweets personally composed by the president will be signed "-BO." The announcement also promised daily updates from the campaign trail via Twitter and Facebook.

The @BarackObama Twitter account has been active since 2007, but Obama himself has not been an active tweeter, according to Mashable.
