Obama signs 2012 defense bill into law

President Barack Obama has signed the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act, endorsing into law military spending policy for fiscal 2012. The contentious bill has made waves across the country for its provisions that allow for indefinite military detainment of suspected terrorists, including U.S. citizens on American soil.

The bill provides for $554 billion for the military’s base budget and $116 billion in overseas contingency operations spending.

Obama issued a signing statement in whch he detailed his reservations about provisions related to mandatory military detention of suspected terrorists, potentially including American citizens.

"Ultimately, I decided to sign this bill not only because of the critically important services it provides for our forces and their families and the national security programs it authorizes, but also because the Congress revised provisions that otherwise would have jeopardized the safety, security, and liberty of the American people," Obama wrote in the signing statement.

Obama signed the bill on Dec. 31, 2011.

Foster's comments above says it all for how divided this president has made this country. “Theres another $700 billion welfare check written to the ruling elites of the the military/defense corporations and oil companies…” This country owes a lot to the people who served in the military and those who have worked for the so called evil defense corporations. Yeah let’s just give everything to education and social programs because they are working out so great! We spend more money on education (average 9k per student/per year) and our children are still losing ground to the rest of the world. Social programs, Really! There is so much fraud across the board it’s a joke. Millions of dollars are going to the deceased or bogus claims, but let’s spend more money. Here is a new approach, let’s stop politicizing EVERYTHING and clean up both ends of the spectrum! Instead of blaming each other we could try and actually fix something, but then who could we point fingers at if did just that?

We spend 5 times the current military budget on health care. The FDA has allowed foods that are unhealthy for Americans to eat and they get cancer which is very expensive to treat. We can survive financially if we would all significantly reduce the amount of animal protein we eat to 5% of total protein intake and eat more beans, fruits and vegetables and eliminate milk from the diet. This has reversed heart disease and is proven but we still want the dollar menu at the fast food joints because it is quick and convenient. We need to eat local and eat organic if we want to be healthy otherwise you significantly increase your chances of getting cancer. Cancer is an epidemic and we need to take action now. I suggest you watch "forks over knives" and you will learn about how eating is directly related to health.

Theres another $700 billion welfare check written to the ruling elites of the the military/defense corporations and oil companies that come straight from the American taxpayer, much of which will be wasted on fraud, inefficiency, waste, overseas oil, and unecessary corporate excess.....and, we have a dent in the Constitutionally granted civil rights kicker. The greatest transfer of wealth the world has ever known....the United States military. How much are we going to spend on all education and social programs combined in 2012?

This is an embarrassment to all that our founding fathers fought and sacrificed for. They wrote provisions into the constitution to prevent these very things because they were victims of such tyranny.
We have come to an age in which our democracy has turned against its own citizens. Don’t like your neighbor, just “inform” on them: no right to face your accuser, no right to see the evidence against you, no write to a jury trial of your peers, no right of Habeas Corpus. Just indefinite imprisonment for as long as the government wants to use trumped up charges against you, for any reason.

Mark your calendar, 2011-12-31, the day the Constitution was stabbed in the heart. 2012 is the end of the world as we have known it. And for what, to protect some squatters in a foreign country?
