The work: Helping agencies modernize and streamline their approach to budget development and management by adopting Treasury’s Budget Formulation and Execution Manager.

The impact: BFEM has saved the government $14.4 million in duplicate investments and transformed 13 agencies’ budget processes into an electronic workflow.

The nuts and bolts: Friedline, a budget analyst, helped launch BFEM in 2008 as a way to improve Treasury’s approach to developing budgets and sharing them with the Office of Management and Budget.
