Federal 100: Cmdr. Kevin M. Keast

Cmdr. Kevin M. Keast

Name: Cmdr. Kevin M. Keast
Title: Product Line Manager for Enterprise Information Systems Infrastructure
Agency: U.S. Coast Guard

Cyber leader afloat and in port. Defending the networks of a large enterprise is even more difficult with "floating" networks that face scarce connectivity. Enter Keast, who designed an innovative solution that allows information to be transmitted only when sufficient bandwidth is available. It allows Coast Guard cutters to focus bandwidth resources on mission-oriented activities and receive updates from a central server once they are back in port. With what supporters describe as a knack for strategizing, Keast has improved Coast Guard cybersecurity while setting an example for the entire Defense Department.
