Mobile security visionary Pillay took advantage of the fact that most NASA centers’ telephone systems needed upgrading to create a new environment that supports the vision of securely working anywhere, anytime. He also led the creation of a mobility strategy with participation by stakeholders throughout NASA and input from the commercial sector. After testing his strategies, he approached NASA’s Senior Management Council for funding. On the strength of his proposal, he was given $28 million to implement his ideas, and he did all that in nine months. His efforts will significantly improve IT security and revolutionize how NASA provides IT services.
