Title: U.S. CIO
Agency: Office of Management and Budget

The digital strategist. Using "innovating with less" as his mantra, VanRoekel championed efforts to transform the federal sector into a 21st-century government by harnessing the power of technology. His key initiatives -- the Digital Government Strategy and PortfolioStat -- are changing how the government does business and making agencies more effective by taking advantage of the newest technologies. VanRoekel has repeatedly sought to demonstrate that IT should be viewed as a strategic asset rather than discretionary spending. His leadership has helped OMB tackle notorious government stovepipes while strengthening the federal CIO community as a whole.
