Federal 100: Joseph Demarest

Name: Joseph Demarest
Title: Assistant Director, Cyber Division
Agency: Federal Bureau of Investigation

Guarding the cyber gates. Demarest is the FBI's point man in the fight against cyberattacks and cyber spying. His collaboration efforts provide cyberattack victims with information they can use to fight back. In the past year, the Cyber Division underwent a major shift, narrowing its focus from all computer-related crime to only computer intrusions, which the FBI called the most significant cyber threat facing the United States. Demarest has also been a driving force in creating partnerships with the private sector and law enforcement to identify and disrupt growing cyber threats through his work on the FBI's Next Generation Cyber Initiative.
