Federal 100: Travis Howerton

Name: Travis Howerton
Title: Chief Technology Officer, National Nuclear Security Administration
Agency: Department of Energy

IaaS pioneer. Fostering cloud and infrastructure-as-a-service capabilities at the agency that oversees nuclear security is an intimidating prospect, but Howerton reins in disruptive technologies and puts them to work saving time and resources. As the DOE/NNSA RightPath program manager, he has been implementing YOURcloud, an online portal that lets DOE employees request and use servers, desktops and IT services while testing a bring-your-own-device environment. The program is expected to save $70 million a year.
