Federal 100: Magalene Powell-Meeks

Name: Magalene Powell-Meeks
Title: Deputy CIO, Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Agency: NASA

Raising IT's profile at NASA. The Jet Propulsion Lab usually gets accolades for its rocket scientists, but Powell-Meeks helped the lab shine in IT. She implemented an effective governance structure, reduced mission costs and assisted in creating the lab's first IT readiness plan, proof that IT has become a key enabler of NASA's space missions. In a break with tradition, she also spearheaded support for crucial events by treating them as major programs and creating mission-specific project plans that focused on individual business needs instead of a one-size-fits-all IT structure.
