GSA retools Schedule 70 for cyber

Federal technology buyers who use the General Services Administration's Schedule 70 will soon have new options for acquiring cybersecurity services.

GSA set up four special item numbers to cover vendors that provide penetration testing, incident response, cyber hunting, and risk and vulnerability assessment services. Customers seeking those capabilities can now use "pre-vetted support services that will expand agencies' capacity to test their high-priority IT systems, rapidly address potential vulnerabilities and stop adversaries before they impact our networks," GSA Administrator Denise Turner Roth said.

The addition to Schedule 70 -- the largest, most popular federal acquisition vehicle -- simplifies and speeds access to specific cybersecurity services. Previously, users seeking those services had to sift through the schedule's thousands of products and vendors.

The agency issued a draft solicitation for the services in August, and GSA is starting the process of evaluating suppliers. Schedule 70 customers can expect the new service options to go live on Oct. 1.
