With 1.2 million service members and civilians deployed globally, the Army can’t function without robust networks, and Ferrell has led a host of modernization initiatives under the Defense Department’s Joint Information Environment campaign. He oversaw the migration to Joint Regional Security Stacks and consolidated more than 60 percent of the Army onto a single network in less than a year. He has shepherded the Army’s cloud strategy by adopting a mixture of on-premises, off-premises, milCloud and commercial models. He has also mapped a plan to reduce the number of Army data centers from 1,200 to 10 by 2025.
