In a year when organizations from 18F to the Pentagon sought closer ties with Silicon Valley, few industry power brokers pushed for government engagement harder than Horowitz. His venture capital firm (co-founded with Netscape creator Marc Andreessen) has funded Box, GitHub, Slack and Tanium, among others, and boasts two operating teams that help Andreessen Horowitz’s portfolio companies “go to market” with government. In his public advocacy and quiet relationship building, Horowitz has been instrumental in bringing startup technology and talent to bear on agencies’ IT transformation efforts.
