A roadmap for the cyber workforce. Keith went well beyond her basic marching order of implementing the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education Cybersecurity Workforce Framework by creating a tool that other organizations can use to improve workforce recruitment, training and retention. The DOD Cyber Workforce Framework is a lexicon of 52 unclassified roles, with descriptions and aligned tasks. Keith even devised data analytics to determine which steps are essential to the success of DOD’s cyber mission. Her efforts earned the support of DOD, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Office of Personnel Management and others.

    DHS chief Nielsen resigns

    Kirstjen Nielsen, the first Homeland Security secretary with a background in cybersecurity, is being replaced on an acting basis by the Customs and Border Protection chief. Her last day is April 10.
