Name: Kevin Murphy
Title: Program Executive for Earth Science Data Systems
Agency/Company: NASA

Satellite data for the masses. To produce interactive maps of the Earth’s surface, NASA analysts take raw data collected by satellites and then process, order and distribute the information into understandable visualizations. Murphy leads the team that collects, measures and transforms that data into a tool that is used by more than 1.5 million members of the science community and the broader public to study long-term environmental and Earth science trends. He also helped oversee NASA’s move to commercial cloud technology to better manage the roughly 20 petabytes of data handled by the agency’s processing centers nationwide.
