On Aug. 9, the General Services Administration sent out a request for information for the next iteration of its government wide IT acquisition contract for small business vendors.

Although prime contractors under GSA’s 8(a) Streamlined Technology Acquisition Resource for Services contract consist of small businesses, or 8(a), contractors, the STARS vehicle is considered by industry experts as an entry-level contract to get new innovative IT services vendors into the agency’s acquisition channels and grow their businesses.

The master contract has a ceiling of $20 billion over its five-year base period, with one three-year option, and will incorporate dozens of small business vendors, according to GSA. Stars II has a $10 billion ceiling over 10 years.

STARS II is also one of the GWAC vehicles the Department of Homeland Security turned to last February after it chose not to renew its $22 billion Security Enterprise Acquisition Gateway for Leading-Edge Solutions II (EAGLE II) contract.

GSA said the ordering period for the current STARS II contract will end Aug. 30, 2021. The deadline for input on the STARS III RFI is Sept. 6.
