Gurus and Gadgets Series: "The Destiny of Tablets"
When Apple announced its iPad™ in April this year, the news release "clarified" that the market for this device was somewhere between a PDA and a laptop. First reactions varied from "Interesting tool for Web-surfing and reading" to "Terrific for video and music" to "An over-sized iPod touch®."
Six months later, major competitors announced their new tablet products: Dell (Latitude™ XT2), Samsung (Galaxy Tab™) and RIM (BlackBerry® PlayBook™). These announcements strongly indicate that the big electronics manufacturers believe in a fast-growing market for tablets. Market research firm iSuppli Corporation has recently increased its forecast for the iPad™ tablet to 13.8 million units for 2010, up from its July outlook of 12.9 million, and it expects iPad shipments alone in 2011 to reach more than 43 million units.
The NVTC Technology Innovations Committee concludes its 2010 "Gurus and Gadgets" series with a lively discussion and show and tell about what business users can expect regarding the "destiny of tablets."
All event attendees will be entered in a Verizon Wireless raffle to win the Samsung Fascinate™, a Galaxy S™ Android smartphone and some Android smartphones from Sprint.
