The RAND Center

Santa Monica, CA, September 15, 2000 - The second social media conference for law enforcement professionals will take place January 10-12, 2010, at the RAND Center in Santa Monica, California. Building on the success of the first Social Media the Internet and Law Enforcement conference (The SMILE Conference™) LAwS Communications will be the event producer. Law enforcement professionals will be equipped with all the technical hands-on skills and the practical knowledge to enter the social media world with confidence, or to polish up their own techniques through peer and interpersonal technology interaction. “Given the success of the inaugural SMILE Conference and broad international support, this follow-on event will further reinforce the need for departments to proactively take the lead in their community efforts. The conference is unique in its ability to bring together a widely respected gathering of law enforcement professionals,” stated conference organizer, Lauri Stevens. "The necessity of sharing information and exchanging effective ideas on community policing, outreach and evolving social media techniques, such as investigatory and forensics uses, has become a hallmark that sets this conference apart.” Town Hall Meeting Planned: The SMILE Conference will include an evening Town Hall Meeting during the conference to allow delegates and speakers the opportunity to explore and discuss in-depth issues concerning social media and law enforcement that could not be fully addressed during the daytime sessions. About The SMILE Conference: The SMILE Conference (Social Media the Internet and Law Enforcement) will address social media as community media, investigative techniques and cases studies, social media policy and strategy, legal issues, recruitment and retention. Training sessions will happen each morning and followed by three days of plenary sessions featuring how-to(s), so you will leave with the hands-on skills you need. From the chief to the newest officer in the agency, The SMILE Conference is for anyone who is interested in social media and its many applications in the field of law enforcement.
