The Interior Department has picked Bernard Mazer to be its new chief information officer.

Mazer, who has been CIO at Interior’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), will start his new post June 7, the department announced today. Before joining FWS, Mazer held a senior technology-related post in a bureau of the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Mazer will replace Sanjeev “Sonny” Bhagowalia who recently left the Interior CIO position to be deputy associate administrator for innovative technologies at the General Services Administration.

Interior's CIO oversees an IT portfolio worth $1 billion annually, the department said.
