Intergraph expands GIS options

With the new GeoMedia 4.0 Product Suite, Intergraph Corp. has expanded the

options federal information technology managers have for integrating geospatial

data from different computer systems.

The Intergraph geographic information system mapping software, available

on the General Services Administration schedule, allows GIS data created

and managed with different products to be integrated into one format. This

is particularly important for government agencies that must analyze, combine

or distribute information from various sources.

Data servers supported by GeoMedia 4.0 are Oracle Corp.'s Oracle 8i

Spatial Object Model server, Microsoft Corp.'s SQL Server and ODBC Tabular

data server.

Version 4.0 also introduces the GeoMedia SmartPlot feature, which enables

users to plot maps from within the main GeoMedia environment, instead of

switching to another software tool.

With GeoMedia 4.0, Intergraph has also added support for extensible

markup language for GIS and Wireless Markup Language, so that information

can easily be interpreted and transported across the Internet and wireless

communication devices.

To improve system performance on the back end, Intergraph has added

a new dynamic display cache and support for distributed computing via hardware

clustering. GeoMedia 4.0 is Windows 2000-compliant and will begin shipping

this month.
