Roster change

A pair of the Army's technology leaders will retire this summer, leaving the service after helping to establish its knowledge management vision and Army Knowledge Online portal.

Miriam Browning, the Army's director of enterprise integration, and Col. Robert Coxe, the service's chief technology officer, will both retire in August. The two have been integral to the ongoing evolution of the Army Knowledge Management goals, including the development of the Army Knowledge Online portal.

Browning has been in her current position since August 2001. Coxe took over as CTO in July 2000.

Abraham Haspel has been appointed as assistant deputy secretary of the Interior Department, effective June 10.

Haspel will provide program and management guidance for areas under the purview of the Office of the Deputy Secretary. He will serve as a focal point for Indian trust reform issues, historical accounting and other projects.

Haspel previously spent 12 years at Interior, beginning in 1978, serving in policy and management positions, including assistant director for program review of the Minerals Management Service. He joined the Energy Department in 1990, serving in a series of managerial and policy positions, most recently (1999-2002) as deputy assistant secretary for planning, budget and management (chief operating officer) of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

Aurene Martin has been appointed as acting deputy assistant secretary for Indian affairs, the Interior Department announced June 13. Her appointment was effective May 28, and she will assist in Indian trust fund reform.

Martin, a member of the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa, began work at Interior in October 2001 as counselor to Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs Neal McCaleb.

The Transportation Department on June 14 announced the selection of three federal security directors:

* Richard Curasi, Kansas City International Airport, Mo. Most recently, Curasi worked for Raytheon Co. as a program manager in integrated systems and simulations. During his service in the Army, Curasi commanded the U.S. Army Central Personnel Security Clearance Facility, a responsibility that includes granting, denying or revoking security clearances and determining access eligibility to some of the nation's most guarded secrets.

* Kenneth Kasprisin, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. A professional engineer, Kasprisin has more than 20 years of highly successful leadership and management experience. Most recently, he was an assistant director at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, responsible for nationwide programs and personnel that conduct assessments, planning, training, exercises and monetary grants that help prepare states and communities for natural and terrorist-related disasters.

* Dario Compain, Tampa International Airport, Fla. Compain is a 30-year Army veteran and retired colonel who served as deputy director and provost marshal in the Joint Security Directorate of the U.S. Central Command, working on security and force protection issues relating to the Middle East.
