CIO vs. CFO

officer position was created in the Clinger Cohen Act of 1996. CIOs' responsibilities include:

Monitoring IT projects using

performance metrics.

A chief financial officer, as outlined in the Chief Financial Officers Act of 1990, is responsible for:

Developing and maintaining

integrated accounting and financial management systems.

Providing policy guidance and oversight for all agency financial management employees and activities.

Approving and managing financial management systems.

Developing budgets for financial management operations and improvements.

Monitoring the financial execution of the agency's budget.
