Tracking Postal trucks

U.S. Postal Service officials have awarded a three-year contract to I.D. Systems to provide wireless location-tracking of USPS' vehicle fleet. Unisys will provide help-desk services and user support as a subcontractor.

Company officials said the fixed-price contract has a guaranteed initial value of $4 million, which will cover the cost of installing the vehicle-tracking system in eight large USPS facilities. I.D. Systems has demonstrated its wireless radio frequency identification tacking system in several USPS facilities where it is now being used.

I.D. Systems officials said they will make a few modifications to their asset management system to meet specific needs of USPS. The real-time tracking system makes use of local- and wide-area networks and the Internet.
