IBM has launched a new Global Leadership Initiative, a strategy group geared to helping the public sector improve services to citizens.

The Washington, D.C.-based group will have former presidential appointees, career civil servants and private industry leaders. IBM has picked Scott Gould, former chief financial officer at the Commerce Department, to head the group.

IBM will offer expertise from all of its corporate divisions to aid the team in their efforts. The team will also work with outside organizations to study ways in which information technology and business transformation consulting services can help identify and solve problems that government agencies encounter in delivering services.

Gould will serve as vice president of public sector strategy and change at IBM Business Consulting Services, and as a senior fellow at the IBM Center for the Business of Government.
