The Energy Department has launched a competition for apps developers to build apps that help consumers get the most out of their utility data. The department announced that it was taking submissions starting April. 5.
The contest is centered on Green Button, an open standard for sharing electricity usage information. The department wants developers to blend data from other public sources with Green Button data. Winners will share in a $100,000 cash prize.
