The Defense Information Systems Agency's draft request for proposals for mobile device management due out this summer will incorporate a single service provider solution, said one of the agency's top technology managers.

DISA has been looking for more effective ways to get mobility out to its diverse workforce, moving to some commercial mobile solutions to provide mission-essential tools and accommodate varying levels of security for those devices as the technology races ahead.

The agency is closing in on how to do that as it looks to using a single provider to handle both classified and unclassified mobile device management service in a future contract, said DISA's Infrastructure Development Executive Jack Wilmer in remarks at an AFCEA-NOVA lunch on March 3.

DISA had issued a request for information to industry last fall requesting input on how to approach the upcoming contracting vehicle. The feedback from industry, said Wilmer, came down squarely on the single service provider solution.
