Federal 100: Hudson Hollister
Name: Hudson Hollister
Title: Founder
Organization: Data Coalition
Open sesame. Hollister is playing a long game when it comes to open government data. The former congressional staffer and Securities and Exchange Commission attorney founded a trade group — the Data Coalition — to push agencies to publish open and extensible financial data. One early win, the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act, established spending information as open data. That set the stage for the Open, Public, Electronic and Necessary Government Data Act, which passed as a section of the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act. Hollister said the law provides a “broad, durable mandate” for open data as the default setting of the federal government.
