The Defense Department is looking to get a better handle on its acquisition data with an access and dissemination plan later this year.

DOD plans to release the guidelines by the end of 2019, Mark Krzysko, director for acquisition data, analytics and policy, told FCW following a July 17 speech at FCW’s Emerging Tech Summit.

Krzysko, who is charged with transforming how DOD uses data related to defense acquisition, also said the memo would be more of “a functional review of data individually and in aggregation” and how to manage it -- rather than guidance on security. The ultimate goal is to support better decision-making.

“This is the intellectual piece of access and dissemination,” he said. “We’ve had a strong bias toward programs,” and haven’t thought about what to do with data that comes along with them.
