Tom Sasala

Director of Data Strategy, Office of the Chief Management Officer

Department of the Navy

Emerging technology is changing the federal government in significant ways, from online portals that facilitate automated transactions to data bases available that are accessible by law enforcement officers in the field. Looking ahead, digital transformation will continue to improve the way government manages data – its collection, storage, analysis, sharing, transmission and security – as a means of improving government, specifically the attainment of agency’s critical missions. The session focus will consider emerging technology’s implications for the U.S. Navy and the Defense Department more broadly, with attention paid to:

  • data analytics and the role of data scientists
  • DOD’s data strategy
  • the open data government act
  • the federal data strategy
