DoD Healthcare Management System Modernization Program Management Office
Mr. Craig Schaefer serves as Program Manager for the DoD Healthcare Management System Modernization Program Management Office and provides leadership and management for the acquisition, modernization, and deployment of DoD’s electronic health record, MHS GENESIS.
Preceding the Program Executive Office of Defense Healthcare Management Systems, Mr. Schaefer’s roles included Program Manager for the Joint Program Executive Office of the Joint Tactical Radio System; Management positions at Booz Allen Hamilton; Project Manager of the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical Increments 2 and 3, U.S. Army Program Executive Office, Tactical Command Control Communications; and the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology at Headquarters, Department of the Army G-8, Program Analysis and Evaluation.
Mr. Schaefer is a Lieutenant Colonel (U.S. Army Retired), beginning his service as an Infantry Company Commander and Platoon Leader. He earned a Master of Arts in Computer Resources and Information Management from Webster University and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Ripon College. He graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Program Manager’s Course at the Defense Acquisition University obtaining Level III Certification. His military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award).
