Nascent artificial intelligence applications promise to improve government by extracting hidden value in data; reducing inefficiencies and streamlining operations; affording employees more time for creative problem-solving; and improving customer service. For all its perceived benefits, however, AI is not a plug-and-play technology. Getting the most from AI requires groundwork—preparing the data fields, and reskilling the workforce.
