Jack Wilmer

Deputy Chief Information Officer for Cybersecurity and the Chief Information Security Officer

Mr. Jack Wilmer is the Deputy Chief Information Officer for Cybersecurity within the Department of Defense (DoD), Office of the Chief Information Officer. Mr. Wilmer is responsible for ensuring the department has a well-defined and well-executed $8 billion cybersecurity program. He is responsible for coordinating cybersecurity standards, policies and procedures with other federal agencies, coalition partners and industry.

Prior to this role, Mr. Wilmer served as the Principal Assistant Director for National Security and International Affairs within the Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP) where he provided S&T expertise for whole-of-government policy coordination on a wide range of national security topics, including the Nation’s nuclear weapons posture, bio/chem-threats and security, the opioid epidemic, quantum information sciences, and National Security / Emergency Preparedness communications infrastructure. He also served OSTP as a Senior Policy Advisor for Cybersecurity and IT Modernization to advance the President’s technology agenda by focusing on job creation, modernizing federal infrastructure, and protecting the Homeland.

Mr. Wilmer has served in various executive leadership roles in the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense (DoD). These roles include serving as the Vice Director for the 1200+ person, $1B+ organization responsible for development, acquisition, and evolution of all new capabilities provided by Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), running the 275+ person, $600M+ organization responsible for all of DISA’s cyber defense capabilities, serving as the Deputy Chief Techology Officer for Enterprise Services, and serving as the Technical Director for DHS’s cyber defense programs. Prior to his government service, Mr. Wilmer served 10+ years in industry in various software engineering, program management, and executive leadership roles.

Mr. Wilmer graduated with honors from Princeton University where he achieved a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in Computer Science, and was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service in 2016.
