In this presentation, the case for cloud computing as essential to achieving a secure future will be examined. Cloud computing is revolutionizing almost every aspect of information technology. But it has reached the point now where it is not just a good idea but a necessity for organizations to achieve feature and development velocity or to handle challenges in scaling, HA, and other aspects. For system administrators or security auditors used to control down to the bare metal cloud was once seen as a potential security risk, but now accepted and handled. Now we reap the same velocity benefits for security as we’ve been accustomed to enjoying on the functional side; platform and standardization allows for focus responsibility on security controls where it belongs; new paradigms such as zero-trust networking or cryptographically verified hardware dispense with the need for implicit trust relationships. Cloud technologies and paradigms are now necessary for building and maintaining secure systems and applications.
