Thomas N. Flagg is a motivational leader, who strives to inspire teams to deliver their best work in support of business goals and objectives. He brings over 20 years of business and information technology knowledge composed of both private sector and government experiences. He currently serves as the Director of the Directorate of Information Technology Operations and Services within the Office of the Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).

In this role, he is responsible for leading a team of approximately 100 federal and 600 contract staff in providing “the right tools at the right time” to support the varying mission needs of DOL’s agencies. His team provides operational support for the enterprise-IT environment, which includes infrastructure, unified communications, cloud-based applications platforms and data centers.

He actively leads his management team in setting strategy, vision and direction to derive DOL’s operational plan, and collaborates with agencies to manage and execute planned implementation using departmental capabilities. Most recently, he was instrumental in helping with the information technology shared services consolidation.

Additional roles at DOL have included serving as the Director of IT for Wage and Hour Division and the Office of Workers Compensation Programs, and Branch Chief for the Employment & Training Administration (ETA). Prior to joining DOL in 2013, he worked as a small business consultant within ETA delivering systems as a Web Application Programmer and Project Manager for the Office of Foreign Labor Certification, and National Emergency Grants (now known as National Dislocation Worker Grants). He also worked as an Internet Services Manager at Recorded Books, a Lead Software Developer and Technology Manager of the InTouch patient medical records pharmacy system at Health Objects, a Manager and Technical Lead of the insurance vertical at ZonaFinanciera.com, GTE/Verizon, and Intel Corporation as Technical Management Contributor and Trainee.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Howard University, and a Master in Business Administration and Master in Business Management with a focus on Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business. Also, he has an Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management. Thomas Flagg was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area. His wife LeShelle is a middle school English teacher, and they have two children.
