The bureau awarded Datatrac Information Services a $48 million contract to manage two background check call centers.

The FBI awarded Datatrac Information Services Inc. a $48 million contract to manage two background check call centers.

Under the National Instant Criminal Background Check System contract, Datatrac will run inbound call centers that provide federal firearms licensees with approval or denial information on firearm transfers, according to company officials.

The contract has one base year with four option years. The call centers will be at Datatrac's facilities in Barbourville, Ky. and Wheeling, W.Va. The company is based in Richardson, Texas.

Under the Brady Act, firearms licensees must contact NICS to run a background check before transferring a firearm. Licensees can contact NICS through a state point of contact, a call center or a Web site, company officials said.
