Navy posts tech transfer site

The Navy has a new Web site that will help other agencies and the private sector use Navy-funded research and development.It also provides a central location for finding research and development projects the service is interested in funding. is run by the nonprofit West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation, which received funding for the project from the Office of Naval Research. The site targets government, academic and industry users who might want to enhance their current technologies, said Devanna Corley, spokeswoman for the foundation. She said the site can also be used by government research and development programs to ensure they are not duplicating existing Navy efforts.According to the site, the Navy has more than 2,300 patents it is willing to license. One section features a search engine that allows users to search patents by number, keyword, phrase or other characteristics. A search on the term “computer” returns more than 550 hits, including patents for an “airborne video tracking system,” an “automatic message filing system” and “real time data acquisition.”The patent information, kept on the foundation’s database, is from the Patent and Trademark Office’s patent database, Corley said.The site also includes a section that allows users to find new technology areas the Navy is interested in funding. It includes links to Navy solicitations posted on FedBizOpps and the Navy’s Small Business Innovation Research program office.Visitors can sign up for a personalized service that sends out notices of new Navy research opportunities and events.
