Air Force pursues new storage

The Air Force wants to build new storage-area networks and data warehouses, a key part of the service's new Enterprise Information Technology Services Strategy.

An announcement was posted May 31 on the Federal Business Opportunities' Web site requesting information from industry on how to build a Global Air Force Storage Capability. The service included questions that companies should answer by June 30.

Air Force officials want to create storage-area networks and data warehouses that build on the service’s existing hardware and software. They want them secure and to provide easier data access, archiving, retrieval, staging and delivery services for airmen.

In April, the Air Force announced it may pursue a procurement for storage-area networks and data warehouses with the release of the service’s Enterprise IT Services Strategy. The strategy identified nine enterprise services to improve airmen’s abilities to collaborate in planning and decision-making, to share information and situational awareness, and to synchronize actions on the battlefield.
