Networx leader to take over Alliant
John Johnson, the GSA official who has spearheaded the development of the Networx contract, will take over leadership of Alliant.
John Johnson, the General Services Administration official who has spearheaded the development of the Networx contract, will take over leadership of Alliant, said acting Federal Acquisition Service Commissioner Barbara Shelton.
Alliant, which will be a governmentwide acquisition contract covering a range of information technology services, had been under the purview of Neal Fox, GSA’s former assistant commissioner of commercial acquisition who left in July.
Johnson, assistant commissioner of service development and delivery, is now responsible for Alliant, Shelton said. Alliant is intended to replace two expiring GWACs, Millennia and the Applications ’n’ Support for Widely Diverse End-User Requirements. It will have a $50 billion ceiling and a five-year base period with one five-year option period. GSA plans to award it to about 20 vendors.
The contract has been slow to materialize, however. After more than a year of discussion, GSA released draft requests for proposals for Alliant and an accompanying contract, Alliant Small Business, in March. The final RFPs were originally promised July 29, but GSA officials later revised that prediction to sometime this fall.
John Okay, a consultant with Topside Consulting, said Johnson's appointment to take over Alliant is a good sign for the contract.
"John's done an extremely good job of taking Networx from a concept to where it is now," he said. Alliant needs the same kind of leadership, he said.
